Setting Up and Maintaining Cookie Banner Compliance Has Never Been Easier With Shake

When you manage multiple websites—whether as an agency for your clients or for your own company—ensuring long-term compliance can quickly turn into a headache. Which cookies are active? Are they fired before or after consent? Do you need to update the banner every time you test or deploy a new tracking tool?

Shake was created precisely to solve this problem. It’s a compliance audit and maintenance tool, fully integrated into the Axeptio back-office, designed to help companies and agencies detect, correct, and continuously monitor cookies over time.

In this new edition of Product Lab, we explain how Shake works—and how it can save you hours while simplifying both the deployment and maintenance of your Axeptio widgets.

Setting Up and Maintaining Cookie Banner Compliance With Shake

A Smarter Way to Understand Your Cookie Setup

Shake begins with an audit of your website. It crawls and analyzes a representative set of your pages, broad enough to cover the site’s main sections. Using this sample, Shake identifies all the vendors it finds (meaning the providers behind the cookies and trackers) and evaluates them using two key criteria:

  • Does this vendor require user consent?
  • And more importantly: is it triggered before or after consent is collected?

If a vendor requires consent but fires before the user has given their approval, Shake immediately flags it as “misconfigured.” Within minutes, you get a clear snapshot of your compliance status.

From Scanning to Automatically Configuring Your Banner

Where Shake becomes invaluable for agencies and businesses is in its ability to generate a ready-to-use cookie banner configuration directly in the Axeptio back-office, based on its scan.

In practice, Shake:

  • lists the vendors detected,
  • automatically adds them to your cookie banner,
  • and sorts them into the correct purpose categories (audience measurement, data sharing with third parties, personalized ads, etc.).

This means you no longer need to manually track down each service used on your site and add it one by one from the cookie library.

The time savings are huge—especially for agencies managing multiple clients or for marketing teams that regularly update their tracking stack. Of course, Shake doesn’t entirely replace human review: it’s still recommended to double-check the analysis before publishing, particularly if deeply nested pages trigger rarely used cookies. But in most cases, the tedious work is already done."

Staying Compliant Over Time

Your marketing stack evolves constantly. Scripts may have changed since your last deployment, and new cookies may have appeared. Maintaining compliance with regulations such as GDPR, nFADP, or Law 25 is therefore an ongoing challenge.

Again, Shake proves to be a powerful ally. The tool lets you schedule recurring scans on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual basis. Each time, you can choose to:

  • simply receive a clear, detailed report, and/or
  • automatically update your configuration

In the latter case, Shake detects any changes and adjusts your banner settings accordingly. Vendors added or removed since the last scan are instantly sorted into the right categories.

Going Beyond the Scan

Shake also includes several features designed to push compliance and customization even further:

  • Consent Mode v2: Shake analyzes your Google Consent Mode v2 configuration within Axeptio cookie banners. First, it checks whether your site requires its integration, then whether it is enabled, and finally whether it is implemented correctly. If you're not yet familiar with Google’s Consent Mode v2—which can model missing analytics data in GA4—check out our dedicated educational guide.

  • Stylesheet detection: Shake can detect your site’s visual identity and automatically generate a CMP aligned with your brand’s colors and typography.

  • Send reports by email: At the end of each scan, Shake can automatically send the report to the relevant stakeholders—colleagues, clients, DPOs… This is perfect for agencies juggling multiple points of contact.

Why Shake Has Become Essential for Agencies

For agencies, Shake has become a true project accelerator. It allows them to start every CMP project with a preconfigured foundation. This is the case at Parkour3, a Canadian digital marketing agency:

At Parkour3, every cookie banner project starts with a Shake compliance audit. This audit identifies the cookies in place, checks that none fire before consent, and generates a clear and educational report.

It’s an invaluable ally: it allows us to clearly demonstrate to clients the risks associated with their current configuration, and reassure them about the benefits of a CMP like Axeptio. » — Mathieu Bélanger, President of Parkour3
