Meeting in London for their first General Assembly, the founding members of the European CMP Association (Axeptio, Didomi, iubenda and Usercentrics) formalised the organisation’s governance and appointed Axeptio to the presidency. Against the backdrop of ongoing discussions around the Digital Omnibus, the association aims to contribute to the European debate on the future of online consent by supporting open, interoperable standards designed to reduce consent fatigue over the long term, while upholding the core principles of the GDPR, citizens’ rights, the competitiveness of European players and Europe’s sovereignty over its data.

Founding Members Set ECMPA’s Governance Agenda at First General Assembly
On 2 June 2026 in London, the members of the European CMP Association (ECMPA) gathered for their first General Assembly since the organisation’s official creation in Brussels on 20 March.
This inaugural General Assembly allowed the founding members to formalise the association’s governance structure and appoint Axeptio as its President.
This new milestone also reflects the founding members’ intention to build an organisation rooted in cooperation and balanced representation across the European consent management market, a sector that today supports hundreds of thousands of organisations and millions of users.
The European CMP Association aims to contribute to the regulatory and technical discussions that will shape tomorrow’s consent standards, in dialogue with European institutions, technology companies and all relevant stakeholders.
As the Digital Omnibus Debate Intensifies, ECMPA Calls for an Interoperable European Model for Online Consent
This first General Assembly comes at a particularly critical moment for the future of consent in Europe. Work around the Digital Omnibus, together with the European Commission’s reflections on how to reduce “consent fatigue” (the fatigue users experience when faced with repeated consent interfaces as they browse online) is giving rise to concerns over Europe’s data sovereignty, the competitiveness of European players in relation to Big Tech, and citizens’ fundamental right to express specific, granular choices.
For the members of the European CMP Association, the challenge is to address the limitations of the current model without undermining the achievements of the European framework, which is now being adopted well beyond the borders of the European Union.
ECMPA is therefore advocating a new path built on interoperability. The approach is designed to allow users’ preferences to move between services, reducing repeated interfaces and the proliferation of consent banners, while preserving the granularity of users’ choices and the responsibility of each actor in how those choices are processed.
Through this vision, the association supports, in particular, the emergence of a new generation of consent assistants capable of automating certain decisions based on preferences defined by users themselves.
I am honoured that Axeptio has been chosen to take on the first presidency of the European CMP Association. We want this association to become a place where the industry can come together, exchange views and help shape a distinctly European response to the major issues that will define the future of consent.
As European institutions look for sustainable ways to address consent fatigue, we have a shared responsibility to support the development of standards that make the user experience simpler, without weakening the principles at the heart of the European model: citizens’ freedom of choice, a diverse and competitive digital ecosystem, and Europe’s sovereignty over its data.”
