Together with three other leading players in the sector (Didomi, iubenda and Usercentrics), Axeptio announces the creation of the European CMP Association, an organisation designed to provide a common voice on consent-related issues at a time of fast-moving regulatory change, particularly in the context of the Digital Omnibus legislative proposals.

Building a Collective Voice for the Consent Sector
Axeptio, Didomi, iubenda and Usercentrics have announced the creation of the European CMP Association, a non-profit organisation established in Brussels on 20 March 2026. The association aims to represent Consent Management Platform (CMP) providers across Europe, bringing together an ecosystem that today supports hundreds of thousands of businesses and millions of users.
At a time when the Digital Omnibus is prompting major discussions and when regulatory simplification at European level may carry significant risks, the founding members want to ensure that expert voices from the field are heard. Their goal is to contribute to regulatory frameworks that continue to protect citizens’ fundamental rights, while also being understandable, competitive and sustainable.
Tackling Consent Fatigue Without Giving Up on User Rights
“Consent fatigue on the web is now widely acknowledged. But it also reflects a positive shift in the European framework: consent is now firmly established. The question is no longer whether consent should exist, but how it can be integrated into the user experience in a way that is smooth, transparent and meaningful,” explains Romain Bessuges-Meusy, CEO and co-founder of Axeptio.
In this context, some Digital Omnibus proposals, such as automating consent signals at browser level, raise important questions. While such measures are intended to simplify the user experience, they could also reduce the granularity of user choice and shift control towards a limited number of technology providers.
The association therefore intends to promote GDPR-compliant consent practices based on informed, specific and contextual choices, while actively taking part in discussions on future technical standards.
Beyond the immediate regulatory issues, the European CMP Association also aims to contribute to the development of interoperability standards between the different players in the ecosystem, including browsers, compliance infrastructures and future European Digital Identity Wallets under the EUDI framework.
This approach is part of a broader vision of how digital practices are evolving, particularly with the rise of AI assistants, which are already reshaping the way users interact with their data.
An Initiative Driven by Axeptio From the Start
As one of the driving forces behind this collective initiative from the outset, Axeptio reaffirms one of its founding beliefs: data protection and user experience can only move forward sustainably within an open, collaborative and interoperable framework.
“We launched this initiative because we believe that the future of consent in Europe depends on interoperability and collaboration. Through this association, we want to help build a common framework that serves a European digital ecosystem that is both competitive and responsible. I am optimistic that the association will soon help pave the way for a code of conduct, as provided for under Article 40 of the GDPR, raising standards and encouraging better practices across the market.” concludes Romain Bessuges-Meusy, CEO and co-founder of Axeptio.
